Acute Inpatient Services
Acute inpatient services are offered at Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health at Rockville's Chesapeake Unit. The Chesapeake Unit provides 24-hour a day inpatient care for adolescents whose acute symptoms require a safe and structured therapeutic environment. This inpatient unit utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach. The team includes psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, art therapists, certified therapeutic recreation therapists, case managers, and mental health technicians who work with the individual and the individual's family.
The goals of treatment are to stabilize an adolescent's psychiatric symptoms, make medication adjustments and begin a plan to return the adolescent home and to outpatient therapy as quickly as possible.
The treatment team works closely with the family to ensure that the adolescent transitions from the unit back home or to the most appropriate level of care. The families are encouraged to help the treatment team in facilitating contact with the adolescent's home school and outside therapists when appropriate.
