John Sackett, President, joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Adventist HealthCare in April 2013. He brings with him success in working with the community, physicians and hospital staff to enhance patient experience. Prior to joining the Adventist HealthCare leadership team, John served 24 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Avista Adventist Hospital, a comprehensive medical center in Louisville, Co. John received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Walla Walla College in 1980, and his Master's in Health Administration from Loma Linda University in 1982. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. |

Shelvan Arunan, Executive Director of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care, began his ministry at Adventist HealthCare’s Rockville campus – including Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland and Adventist Behavioral Health – in June of 2011. Prior to joining the executive team, Chaplain Arunan served as the Regional Director of Mission and Ministries of Midwest Adventist Health System, Director of Reconciliation Ministry for the Ohio Conference, and the producer and host of Spirit Alive – a Christian radio talk show – and The Collective Echo Television Ministries in Ohio. Dr. Arunan has 33 years of experience in working with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He is also an accomplished Certified Christian Conciliator, pastor, chaplain, ministerial director, family therapist and pastoral care administrator. He holds endorsements and certifications with 16 spiritual and professional counseling organizations, as well as master's and doctoral degrees both in pastoral counseling, psychology and practical theology. He is an alumnus of Adler School in Chicago, Ill.; the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas; Pakistan Adventist Seminary and College, Lahore; and the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, Manila, Philippines. |

Daniel Cochran, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined Shady Grove in April 2011. He also serves on the Adventist HealthCare Finance Council. Dan brings with him more than 20 years of experience in health-care financial management, operational leadership and strategic planning. During his career, Dan has also helped health-care providers work on shortening length of stay and developing new units. Prior to becoming part of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital team, Dan served as Vice President of Finance at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Pennsylvania, where he developed and implemented financial improvement plans and oversaw day-to-day fiscal affairs. |

Skip Margot, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in March, 2008. Skip brings more than three decades of nursing experience covering a broad range of both clinical and leadership areas. Prior to joining the team at Shady Grove Skip served as CNE at Bon Secours, Baltimore, and other nurse leadership positions at Holy Cross Hospital and Georgetown University Hospital. He holds a Masters in Science, Healthcare Management from Georgetown University and a BSN from Regents College, New York. He is Board Certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced. He is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives. |

Eunmee Shim, Vice President of Operations, joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in November 2011. Eunmee brings with her more than 20 years of experience in the health-care industry and shares a commitment to faith-based care. Prior to joining Shady Grove’s executive team, she served as Chief Operating Officer for Adventist Health Systems, Florida Hospital Flager in Palm Coast, Fla., where she oversaw clinical and ancillary staff and provided leadership that led to the improvement of quality, patient satisfaction scores and financial performance measures. She brings a background in process improvement and has successfully launched a comprehensive Cancer Care Program, pursued Breast Center of Excellence accreditation and implemented a Computerized Provider Order Entry system. Eunmee holds an MSN in Nursing Informatics from Columbia University School of Nursing, as well as a BSN from Sahmyook University in Seoul, Korea. |

William H. Smith, Chief Development Officer, joined Shady Grove in January, 2002. A former Baptist minister, with two Masters and a Ph.D. in Theology, he has been in fund-raising since 1989. Under his leadership, the Foundation has increased its philanthropic support from an average of $800,000 to $3.0 million annually. The Hospital is completing a $12.0 million expansion campaign, with over $14 million committed to date. At the same time, the Foundation has provided another $3 million in support of other Hospital priorities. |

Kevin Smothers, M.D., Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, became part of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital team in March 2013. Dr. Smothers has more than 30 years of experience as a physician, with a proven track record in clinical quality and patient safety outcomes. Prior to joining Shady Grove, he was Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md. Dr. Smothers is board certified in internal medicine and has extensive experience in emergency medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brown University and his M.D. from Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York. He completed his post-graduate training at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mt. Zion. |

Rhodora Vaflor, Associate Vice President for Quality and Medical Staff Services, joined Shady Grove in January of 2010. Rhodora brings more than 20 years of combined experience in quality, accreditation, regulatory, clinical resource management, safety and performance improvement both in acute care and managed care environments. Among her varied work experience in the field, and prior to joining Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, she was responsible for managed care accreditation related functions as Outcomes Director for Horizon Healthcare of Pennsylvania and Delaware (Blue Cross of New Jersey and Director for Clinical Effectiveness and Quality Improvement for the University of Pennsylvania Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the Philippines and came to the United States under the foreign exchange program in 1972. For the past 20 years, she has successfully provided leadership in managing diverse quality and performance improvement programs, process redesign and developing strategies for measuring and improving quality outcomes. She has earned a Six Sigma Green Belt certification from Penn State University and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Leadership and Organizational Dynamics. |
