Shady Grove Adventist Hospital ’s Nuclear Medicine Department Recognized for Quality, Safety
Hospital Receives American College of Radiology Accreditation
Rockville , MD – Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Nuclear Medicine Services have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT), or CAT scanning, by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The accreditation is given to facilities that provide the highest level of image quality and patient safety.
This ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation means the Nuclear Medicine department underwent a rigorous peer-review by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists on image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
“We are very pleased with the three-year American College of Radiology Accreditation recently awarded to the Nuclear Medicine Department. The accreditation recognizes the strict quality control measures, uniformity and resolution standards that our cameras and technologists provide in order to produce optimal quality images. Our Nuclear Medicine team deserves all the credit and recognition for this accomplishment," said Director of Radiology at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
The department worked for six months testing the equipment, and for their efforts they were granted the prestigious accreditation on the first submission.
“The universal ACR Gold Standard Seal of Nuclear Medicine acknowledges our commitment to create the best imaging experience and safest radiation standards by providing compassionate, patient-centered care that is second to none in quality,” said Cheryl Long, CNMT, in the Nuclear Medicine Department.
Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material, ingested by the patient, to diagnose and treat a variety of disease, including many types of cancers and heart disease. Nuclear medicine procedures can help patients avoid surgery or more invasive diagnostic tests, and often identifies abnormalities very early in the progression of a disease.
