Paying Your Bill

Leaving The Hospital

Your doctor or nurse will advise you of your checkout time.

Payment for expenses not covered by your insurance will be requested at the time you check out of the hospital. This payment will include your insurance deductibles, telephone and television charges and other items your insurance does not cover. For your convenience, this amount may be put on a major credit card. If you have questions about the amount of money you owe at the time you leave, please call (301) 315-3660 during regular weekday business hours. Our Patient Accounts Department will be happy to process your insurance papers for you.

What The Bill Includes

Your hospital bill will show daily charges for your room (which includes general nursing care, meals, linen, housekeeping and maintenance), laboratory tests, x-rays, medication, therapy of any type and special procedures. The Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC), an agency appointed to help control health care costs in this state, regulates the rates and charges established by the hospital. We cooperate fully with the HSCRC in our attempt to provide the highest quality of service to our patients at the lowest cost.

Your private physician and any consulting physicians involved in your care will bill you separately for their professional services. These separate bills may include hospital-affiliated physicians in Radiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology or the Emergency Department.

Patient Accounts

As a courtesy to our patients, the Patient Accounts Department will process a claim to your insurance company. We cannot guarantee that your carrier will pay the claim and accept no responsibility should the claim not be paid.

Your claim is prepared and mailed to your insurance carrier five days after you leave the hospital. We also send a copy to you for your records. Should there be a delay in payment, please follow up with your insurance company. (The phone number is us ually provided either on your insurance card or through your employer.)
