Bariatric Surgery Program
At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, we understand how being overweight can put an unhealthy strain on your body. Our Bariatric program works to offer new hope to many who struggle with weight loss.
Through surgery, the size of the stomach is reduced. This helps reduce food intake. The results can be dramatic. People who have the surgery lose an average of 60-70% of their excess body weight in 12 to 18 months. Most importantly, they can also see an improvement or even a resolution of obesity-related health problems such as diabetes and high-blood pressure. Nearly all patients report a marked improvement in their quality of life.
Shady Grove Adventist Hospital's Bariatric program includes:
- Patient and support person education
- Exercise training
- Nutritional counseling
- Psychological evaluation and support
- Medical clearance
- Support group meetings
- Life long follow up
At Shady Grove, Bariatric Surgery, also called weight loss surgery, involves modification of the gastrointestinal tract that decreases a person's ability to get food into their body. Whenever possible, our surgeons perform Bariatric Surgery by using a less invasive “Laparoscopic” procedure which reduces recovery time. The Laparoscopic technique involves making several small incisions in the abdominal wall. A small camera and surgical instruments are inserted, eliminating the need for the long incision required in the open procedure.
The goal of weight loss surgery is to:
- Improve Health
- Improve Quality of Life
- Increase Lifespan
- Not Cosmetic-this is only a side effect
At Shady Grove our Bariatric Surgery program focuses on the involvement of our team of weight-loss professionals from the pre-operative preparation to the post-operative support stages for as long as you need it we will assist you in achieving your goals.
