Infant Safety
We take infant safety very seriously. All doors into the Birth Suite, Mother-Baby Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics are secured. The doors will alarm unless opened by a staff member with an authorized identification card.
Immediately after delivery, your baby will have a band placed around each ankle. These bands are imprinted with a number, unique for your baby. The bands also have your name, hospital number, and the date and time of birth written of them. You will be given a matching band. A forth band is available for a person of your choosing. For safety, anytime the baby is moved or separated from you, these bands are checked, and rechecked. No one is allowed to visit your baby in the nursery without wearing a band that exactly matches your baby. The bands are not exchangeable. Make sure that you do not remove your band until the baby is discharged from the hospital.
In addition to standard hospital identification bands, we have the state-of-the art "Hugs and Kisses" computerized infant protection system. Each infant wears a comfortable "Hugs" tag attached by the means of a soft tamper-proof strap around his or her ankle. Each mother is given a small "Kisses" tag that is bonded with her infant's Hugs tag at birth. Protection can start right in the delivery room! This system automatically confirms that the right baby is always with the right mother. If any newborn is moved to an unauthorized zone, or the tag has been tampered with, our system activates security cameras and all exit doors and elevators are locked down.
