Designated Primary Stroke Center
Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is a designated Primary Stroke Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS).
This designation demonstrates the commitment of our hospital to meet the emergent needs of stroke patients through high-quality care and clinical excellence delivered by a comprehensive team of care providers.
As a Primary Stroke Center, Shady Grove has measures in place that allow for a more streamlined approach to caring for stroke patients.
These elements include:
- an acute stroke unit
- evidence based stroke pathways of care for stroke patients
- a multidisciplinary team including neurosurgeons, surgeons, emergency department doctors, a stroke coordinator and nurses, follow nationally accepted guidelines, which ensure consistency among all of our patients
- an integrated emergency response system allows emergency medical service providers to alert the hospital’s stroke team that a stroke patient is coming
- 24-hour neurology and neuroimaging services
