As a Primary Stroke Center, Shady Grove boasts a multidisciplinary team including neurosurgeons, surgeons, emergency department doctors, a stroke coordinator and nurses who follow nationally accepted guidelines, which ensure consistency among all of our patients.

Ezra Cohen, M.D.
Medical Director, Stroke Services
Dr. Ezra Cohen was raised in Rockville, Maryland. After attending the University of Michigan, he obtained a medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in 2001. Dr. Cohen trained in neurology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where he functioned as a member of the acute stroke treatment team. He then did a fellowship in Neurophysiology at the New York University School of Medicine. Dr Cohen has been in office practice with the Neurology Center since 2006, seeing patients in Rockville and Washington D.C. He has been treating patients at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital since 2006. Dr. Cohen is board certified in Neurology and Neurophysiology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association, and the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Corda Johnson RN, MS, ACNP
Stroke Program Coordinator
Corda is a native of Rockville, Maryland. She received her undergraduate nursing degree and graduate degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Maryland. She has over 25 years of emergency and critical care nursing experience, 18 of which are at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Corda is a member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, The National Stroke Association, The Montgomery County Stroke Association, The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, and The Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland.

Sandra Carlin, RN, CCRN
Sandra was raised in Stryker, Ohio. She attended the University of Toledo in Ohio where she obtained her nursing degree. In 1988, Sandra moved to Maryland and began her nursing career on the oncology unit at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. After working on many units within the hospital she now works in the Adult Critical Care Unit, is a stroke nurse responder, preceptor, and relief charge nurse.
Sandra is a vital part to our stroke team and actively educates patients about the warning signs of a stroke. As a nurse in the ICU, she also assists them in the rehabilitation process after suffering a stroke. "Time is Brain" and the earliest treatment upon onset of symptoms will ensure the optimum treatment.
She is a member of the AACN and is CCRN certified.
