Behavioral Health Services
Managing our lives during complex times is often a challenge. But when difficulties with behavioral health arise, carrying out everyday responsibilities can seem almost impossible. When this happens, the behavioral health staff at Washington Adventist Hospital is here for you - to listen, to educate and to help you feel better as quickly as possible.
Levels of Service
Levels of service include inpatient care, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient or weekly outpatient Behavioral Health Services. Specialty programs include Adolescent Outpatient Treatment and Substance Abuse. Our staff includes a multidisciplinary team of registered nurses, psychiatric counselors, social workers and activity therapists.
Inpatient Behavioral Health Services
The acute inpatient services at Washington Adventist Hospital offer a team approach to care. This includes individual and group treatment such as group therapy, occupational therapy groups, patient education groups, therapeutic recreation and family meetings. Some of our specialty programs include the psychiatric and substance abuse programs and a three-to-five day detoxification program. We also provide specialized care for adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age in a structured program including therapy, study hall and tutoring. Clinical evaluation and crisis intervention is available 24 hours a day for emergencies.
Outpatient Programs and Services
Alternatives are available to inpatient hospitalization for individuals able to manage their lives after the treatment day ends. Partial Hospitalization provides highly structured, active treatment during the day to patients 18 years and older. Candidates for Outpatient Behavioral Health Services must be 13 years or older and should be able to benefit from group therapy, have a psychiatric diagnosis or be diagnosed with both a psychiatric illness and substance abuse problem.
Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment
The goal of this program is to help patients overcome obstacles that interfere with normal development tasks. Patients aged 13-17 are provided a structured therapeutic environment through teen-focused therapy groups, psychiatric assessment and referral to after-discharge counseling facilities.
Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Treatment
This program focuses on learning techniques to prevent relapse of emotional or mental disorders and symptoms of substance abuse. The intensive program consists of structure and routine involving therapeutic groups, educational groups and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a week. Patients must be 18 or older.
